More than 14,000 students currently attend a Foothill College campus. Among them are countless artists and musicians with varying levels of notoriety. Among them lies a mysterious figure named Achilles Jones. Jones holds a very small audience, but something deeper, may lie within. When looking into Jones’s music, I discovered something real. Jones, who declined to reveal his true identity, is currently a student attending Foothill. In an attempt to learn more about this enigma of a musician, I tracked him down for an interview.
Mr. Jones, you’ve made five albums so far, and rumor has it that you’re working on your sixth. What drives you to make music?
“Just a love for the craft and a love for making things, y’know? I just love creating and then being able to put that out into the world… any art, in my opinion, is good art. You can’t make anything bad unless you make it for the purposes of greed. If you make something with no heart, and you don’t want to make it, then that’s bad.”
How has your music changed over the course of your career?
“It’s for sure gotten less amateur sounding. I have learned how to use SoundTrap, which is the platform that I use to create my music. At the start of my, dare I say, career, I did not know how to use it, I was very bad at it. It was all heart”.

What made you want to make a Christmas album?
“I just love Christmas. I had always sort of thought about doing one just because I thought it would be funny. It started off as a lot more of a joke than it ended up being.”
Who would you say are your musical influences?
“The first one that comes to mind is Yuno Miles. He’s a rapper who kind of went viral for being bad at making music. I thought that
was really funny and I said ‘I want to do that’… I like Pink Floyd, and I sort of try to emulate them, which is weird to say because I know that my music is bad and they’re one of the best bands of all time.”
Is there anyone you would like to thank for helping you during your musical journey?
“I’d like to thank Hater808, Yung Crust and Eyepadd Grampa. They’ve all been featured on my albums and they’ve really been the driving factors on some of my songs. I’d also like to thank Ryan, one of my biggest fans. I’d like to thank all of my fans, really.”
What’s in the future for Achilles Jones?
“I have a lot of plans, actually. My next album is going to be called ‘Open-Mind Surgery’. It’s coming out, probably before the end of the summer, maybe June… the future is vast. I’m planning on making Achilles Jones albums until I die.”
Whether for an audience of 10 or 10,000, you can rest assured that Achilles Jones will keep making music. I, for one, am excited to see what comes next.
