The ATU Local 265 workers strike that stopped service across the Bay Area was halted by Santa Clara Superior County Judge Daniel Nishigaya on March 26th, upholding the claims from the VTA that ATU members had violated the union’s contract by striking.
The strike began after six months of stalled negotiations, as the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 265 walked off the job on Monday, March 10th for the first time since the 1960s.
After an appeal from ATU members to reverse the ending of the strike, an appellate court judge denied the movement and ended the historic movement from the union.
“The appellate court’s denial of the writ petition allows VTA to continue to serve our customers,” a VTA spokesperson wrote in a statement. “We are hopeful that ATU will return to bargaining so its members can get a new contract.”
