Foothill concluded their inaugural Bay 6 campaign last Saturday with a statement win over San Joaquin Delta, putting a bow on a great first season in their new conference. With this win, the Owls increased their conference record to 4-1, securing sole possession of second place behind CSM (5-0).
The contest started back and forth, with both sides trading pairs of touchdowns (both of the Owls’ were from QB Jayden Macedo; a rushing touchdown and a 62-yard passing touchdown to WR Johnnie Barbie). Foothill then forced a momentum swing after a strip sack by LB Joshua Shanklin was recovered by DB Willie Clifton and was run back 22 yards for a touchdown.
San Joaquin Delta quelled the momentum quickly with a touchdown of their own, but the Owls snuck in RB Kevin Fowler’s rushing touchdown just before halftime before getting the ball to start the second half. The first drive after the break stalled, but the Owls secured a first down after a great punt by P Jordan Rucker was turned into a first down with a roughing the kicker penalty on San Joaquin Delta.
Foothill capitalized and increased their lead to two scores with another rushing touchdown this time by RB Jeaden Underwood, but San Joaquin Delta added another twist to the story by taking the ensuing kickoff return for a touchdown. Despite that, the Owls stayed strong and reinstated their two score lead with a second QB Jayden Macedo touchdown pass to WR Johnnie Barbie. They also tagged on a 2nd rushing touchdown of the game from Jeaden Underwood before time expired.
It was an efficient showing by the Owls offense, having a lot of success in both the passing and running game. WR Johnnie Barbie was the standout player in the passing game, with 113 yards and two touchdowns on only 3 catches. RB Jeaden Underwood led the way rushing with his best game of the season so far with 109 yards and 2 touchdowns on 12 carries.
Foothill will conclude their regular season with a non-conference matchup at home vs. Modesto on November 23rd @ 1pm.
